statiques tels que C++ ou
Image processing libraries play an important role in the researcher
toolset and should respect
three criteria: genericity, performance, and interactivity. In short,
genericity boosts code reuse
and algorithm flexibility for various data inputs, while performance
speeds up experiments
and supports real-time applications. Additionally, interactivity allows
software evolution and
maintenance without full recompilation, often through integration with
dynamic languages like
Python or Julia. The first two criteria are not straightforward to reach
with static languages
such as C++ or Rust which require knowing some information at
compile-time to optimize
generated machine code related to the different input and output data
types of an algorithm.
The latest criterion usually requires waiting until runtime to obtain
type information and is
thus performed at the cost of runtime efficiency. The work presented in
this thesis aims to go
beyond this limitation in the context of image processing algorithms. To
do so, a methodology to
develop generic algorithms whose type information about its input and
output data may be known
either at compile-time or at runtime is presented. This methodology is
evaluated on different
image processing algorithmic schemes, and it is concluded that the
performance gap between the
runtime and compile-time versions of the construction algorithm for
hierarchical representations
of images is negligible. As an application, hierarchical representations
are employed to expand
the applicability of grayscale noise level estimation to color images to
enhance its genericity. That
raises the importance of studying the impact of such corruption in the
hierarchies built on noisy
images to improve their efficiency in the presence of noise. It is
demonstrated that the noise has an
impact on the tree structure, and this impact is related to some kinds
of functional in the context
of energy optimization on hierarchies.

Parmi celles-ci,

Ethereum has undergone a recent change called the Merge, which made Ethereum a Proof-of-Stake blockchain shifting closer to BFT consensus. Ethereum, which wished to keep the best of the two protocol designs (BFT and Nakomoto-style), now has a convoluted consensus protocol as its core. The result is a blockchain being possibly produced in a tree-like form while participants try to finalize blocks.
We categorize different attacks jeopardizing the liveness of the protocol. The Ethereum community has responded by creating patches against some of them. We discovered a new attack on the patched protocol.
To support our analysis, we propose a new high-level formalization of the properties of liveness and availability of the Ethereum blockchain, and we provide a pseudo-code. We believe this formalization to be helpful for other analyses as well. Our results yield that the Ethereum Proof-of-Stake has safety but only probabilistic liveness. The probability of the liveness is influenced by the parameter describing the time frame allowed for validators to change their mind about the current main chain. Joint work with Ulysse Pavloff and Sara Tucci-Piergiovanni (CEA-List, Université Paris-Saclay).

programming: the Verse programming language »
_
Abstract: _
Since joining Epic Games <https://www.epicgames.com/site/fr/home>in late
2021, I have been involved in the design and development of Verse, a new,
declarative programming language that Epic plans to use as the language of
themetaverse.
Verse is extremely ambitious: we want it to allow millions of programmers
who have never met towrite code that inter-operates to build a shared
virtual 3D simulation in which billions of users can interact. My current
focus is on formally specifying the technical heart of Verse. At its core,
Verse is a functional logic language, up to now rather a niche subject. In
the talk I will give you a sense of what a functional logic language is; I
will describe the challenges with giving it a formal definition; and I will
sketch our progress in addressing this challenge using denotational
semantics, rewrite rules, and a reference interpreter.
The talk will be recorded and later made available online, on the series
webpage: https://www.irif.fr/en/seminaires/irif/index

Bonjour,
